Right royal celebration for residents of Rosaire Court

DESPITE poor weather resulting in a change of plan, residents of Rosaire Court enjoyed an early Platinum Jubilee celebration last week.

The Rosaire Community Association had planned a street party and tea party in the car park, but the weather meant residents enjoyed spending time together indoors instead.

‘In some ways it’s quite nice for a lot of residents to have our celebration here and then some might go with their families to other events next week,’ said committee chairwoman Rosemary Bishop-White.

‘Most of our residents enjoy a party and are happy to join in.’

Slightly fewer than 50 residents got involved in what Ms Bishop-White said was an important celebration.

‘It is very special – we have gone to town a bit with the decorations and little goody bags for people.

‘None of us are ever going to see another platinum anniversary.’

A cardboard cut-out of the Queen also made an appearance, much to the delight of residents.

Committee member May Way has been a resident of Rosaire Court for 15 years and although disappointed that everything had to be moved inside, said it was a lovely celebration.

‘It’s wonderful and we couldn’t be living in a better place,’ she added.

‘It’s a good bunch here and everyone gets on well together – we are all celebrating.’

She recalled the Queen’s Coronation in 1953, and was glad the Jubilee was being celebrated at Rosaire.

‘There were lots of people and it was very crowded from what I can remember from it,’ she said. ‘The tea party is marvellous so far.’

Goody bags with sweets and souvenirs from the event were available to all residents, with 17 delivered to the doors of those unable to attend the event.

‘They all have something to take away from the day as well,’ said Rosaire Court manager Mike Logue.

He said the Rosaire Community Association worked jointly with other charities to benefit islanders.

‘It’s so good to see such a small charity achieving so much.’
