Today, World Milk Day, the benefits of milk are being highlighted and visitors to the GVS’s Day Centres will be enjoying the local produce with strawberries donated by the Channel Islands Co-operative Society.

‘We are delighted to be able to mark such an occasion in our calendar by supporting one of Guernsey’s leading charity providers,’ said Guernsey Dairy managing director Andrew Tabel.

‘Milk is a great source of protein and vitamins and benefits both young and old.’

Pupils from the Ladies’ College Junior School will be serving the dairy products at the Jubilee Day Centre, following a recent visit to the Dairy.

‘The Dairy kindly welcomed us on a tour of the facilities and the pupils found the operation and processes fascinating,’ said teacher Donna Lloyd-Dodd.

‘Today will be wonderful for both generations as they share their Queen’s Jubilee experiences over a cup of tea, glass of milk and strawberry treat.’

Guernsey Dairy has had a successful year, attaining Great Taste Awards for some of their products and, following collaboration with local farmers, the dairy industry became fully RSPCA Assured.

Guernsey is only the second jurisdiction in the British Isles to do this.

Mr Tabel said: ‘World Milk Day provides us with an opportunity to celebrate these achievements and demonstrate to the island that Guernsey milk remains an integral part of people’s diets.

‘Many of the Jubilee and Russels Day Centre guests would have been brought up drinking Guernsey milk where the natural balance of protein, carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals are proven to help keep bones, teeth and vital organs healthy – perhaps this is why they are so full of energy today.’

Amid Jubilee celebrations, GVS manager Mandy Le Bachelet said visitors to the Jubilee Day Centre were looking forward to the dairy products.

‘Being offered some delicious dairy products and strawberries to accompany them was the icing on the cake for our Day Care Centres’ clients,’ she added.

‘We understand the importance of dairy in a daily balanced diet and let’s face it, you just can’t beat a lovely glass of cold Guernsey milk.’
