Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard, seen here in a fight against Roberto Duran, will visit Guernsey on Friday to talk about his career and raise funds for Guernsey Mind and his own foundation.

He is widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time, winning world titles at five different weights as well as an Olympic gold medal in Montreal in 1976.

He was part of the famous ‘Four Kings’ – a group of exceptional boxers which also included Roberto Duran, Thomas ‘The Hit Man’ Hearns and ‘Marvellous’ Marvin Hagler.

The event will take place at the Duke of Richmond Hotel on Friday and tickets costing £65 are now on sale.

Guests will receive a complimentary copy of the Opus WBC Greatest Fights book, and have the chance to meet Sugar Ray and have an official photograph taken with him.

‘It is a great honour for Guernsey Mind to have been selected by Sugar Ray Leonard as a beneficiary of his visit to Guernsey,’ said Guernsey Mind’s Maddy Diligent.

‘We know the people of Guernsey will be excited by the chance to meet a true sporting icon and hear stories from his incredible career.’

Karl Fowler, chief executive of Opus, which has organised the trip, said: ‘Being able to invite and bring one of the all time greats like Sugar Ray Leonard to Guernsey has been a long time in the making, and we are just thrilled that Ray is coming for what we hope will be a most memorable evening.’

The Sugar Ray Leonard Foundation funds research and raises awareness of childhood diabetes.

The event will be taking place between 7 and 10pm. Tickets can be bought by via Ticketsource https://bit.ly/394Ve1P
