Guernsey Clematis first local business to be granted Royal Warrant
Guernsey Clematis has become the first local business to be granted a Royal Warrant, following a working relationship between founder and chairman Raymond Evison OBE, and Charles, Prince of Wales.
Mr Evison has been supplying the Royal Household with clematis for more than six years, and his stand at the Chelsea Flower Show, where he has received more than 30 gold awards, is visited annually by the Queen.
He said it was a privilege for the company, which he founded in 1984, to be granted a Royal Warrant by the Prince of Wales.
‘It really is a great honour. I have been helping His Royal Highness with his gardens in England by advising him on growing clematis.’
Royal Warrants are bestowed on companies who are substantial suppliers of products to a Royal Household, which reach a very high level of sustainability in their production, business practices, and social responsibilities.
‘We made an application and had to prove the sustainability of the business practice, including the use of water and natural resources, and of social resources,’ Mr Evison said.
About 50 people work at the Guernsey Clematis Nursery on Route Millitaire, which supplies the plants worldwide.
‘Our people said they were very happy for the company that we have been granted a Royal Warrant,’ he added.
