Dancers raring to go in bid for World Cup medals

Guernsey's young dancers are thrilled to be heading to the Dance World Cup on Friday.

It is taking place in San Sebastian in Spain, with competitors from island’s dance schools up against dancers from 62 different countries to crown the best in the world.

‘The dancers are very excited, there has been a big build-up since the qualifiers in Jersey,’ said Catherine Webster, of Gate, the Guernsey Academy of Theatrical Education.

The World Cup takes place continues until 2 July in Spain, with more than 20,000 competitors in all categories of dance.

Mrs Webster said the competition has become increasingly fierce each year, however she believes the Guernsey team can bring home some medals.

‘It would be amazing to win some medals – we’ve won some previously, including two gold medals.

‘We’ve been practising since October – we’re ready and raring to go.’
