Covid affecting close to one in 50 people

ABOUT one in 52 islanders has Covid at the moment, as the number of cases has jumped again.

The number rose steadily rise throughout June and over the last week they increased from 720 active cases to 1,241.

More than 470 people recovered over the last week, but 948 new cases were found over the same period.

Most were in Guernsey, but there are also 32 in Alderney and some in Sark.

There are 10 hospital patients in the Bailiwick with a recent Covid diagnosis.

A new death was also added to the number of additional deaths involving Covid, meaning there have now been 49 deaths either due to Covid or involving it.

There have been 28,098 positive cases in the Bailiwick since the start of the pandemic.

Case numbers have also been slowly rising again in the UK, with one in 30 people in England and Wales having Covid last week, one in 25 in Northern Ireland and one in 18 in Scotland.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 22.2 million infections in the UK, of which 1.1m. were reinfections.

An estimated 2m. people were experiencing self-reported long Covid as of May, suffering issues like fatigue, shortness of breath or a cough at least 12 weeks after testing positive.
