AT WIMBLEDON time there is always an enthusiasm for tennis and it was no different at the annual Cancer Research ladies’ tournament, held at the St Martin’s Tennis Club courts.

Some 40 women took part in a fun doubles tournament and also brought along raffle prizes. There were also items for sale, including jams and cushions, with all proceeds going towards Cancer Research UK.

Joy Mauger, 67, was playing in the tournament for the first time and said she intended to do so for as long as she can.

‘It’s a brilliant tournament, no matter the skill level, everyone always makes you feel so welcome. I’ve only started playing properly this year, so hopefully I get my first win.’

Event organiser Sue de Laune said: ‘We are so lucky with the weather today, it’s perfect timing. I want to thank our sponsors and everyone who helped out.’

St Martin’s Tennis Club, Le Coin Trophies and Fletcher Sports all supported the event.
