Poolside carpet being replaced with a different type of floor
THE green poolside carpet at Beau Sejour is being ripped up and replaced with a new resin floor.
But the colour is being kept secret.
Leisure services manager Danny Le Page said the carpet was last replaced in 2016, but the same product has been used since the centre opened in 1976.
‘Unfortunately, this product is now obsolete, so we’ve had to look for an alternative,’ he said.
‘The new surface is a resin flooring – the same as installed in the changing room village and the BodyZone changing rooms – which is much harder-wearing than the original, and has a longer lifespan.
‘It won’t be in the same green though. We’re keeping the colour a surprise for our customers.’
The pool shut for the work on Monday and by that afternoon the majority of the carpet had been removed.
Mr Le Page said he expected the last pieces to be removed by the end of yesterday.
Owing to the condition of the carpet, it is unable to be reused.
The closure is also allowing the pool to be checked in what is traditionally a quiet period.
‘The pool surround and tank will undergo a general clean and maintenance,’ Mr Le Page said.
‘However, owing to the work being undertaken, which includes grinding of the existing floor surface, access to the area for additional works during this time will be limited, as we want to re-open the pool to our customers as soon as possible.
‘The pool will be refilled over a couple of days once the new flooring is down. Once full, it will take another two days or so to heat and balance the required chemicals before re-opening to the public.’
The work comes ahead of the 2023 NatWest Island Games, which return to the island next summer. The pool will be used to host the swimming competitions.
The pool is scheduled to reopen on Monday 15 August.
