Typically performing at Castle Cornet with an occasional performance at Vale Castle, the group is now taking on Sausmarez Manor for its latest theatre tour which kicked off last night.

‘Coming to Guernsey feels like coming home,’ said creative producer Elli Mackenzie.

‘Guernsey just feels so familiar to us, and it’s nice travelling so far but feeling so at home.

‘We often see families whose children grew up coming to our plays and now they bring their children along.’

Oddsocks has been visiting Guernsey annually since 1994, until the pandemic put a pause on the tradition.

The group consists of five members, all playing multiple characters.

Ms Mackenzie described the performance of Hamlet as ‘funny, entertaining and moving’, as the group put a comical twist on the classic Shakespeare play.

‘The Channel Islands is the last stop on our tour, we’re in Guernsey now, then we have some shows in Jersey and finish it all off in Sark,’ she said.

‘It’s such a luxury to visit here as usually we arrive at a location, set up the stage, perform, take down the stage and move on.’

In Guernsey, the set-up allows the theatre group to have a break between performances and enjoy the island, as well as getting involved in the local drama scene.

As part of the Guernsey Street Festival, Oddsocks are hosting a free theatre workshop on Thursday morning from 11.30am to 1.30pm at Trinity Church.

n The performances at Sausmarez Manor started last night and run until Friday, starting at 7.30pm daily.
