GUERNSEY Scouts are a quarter of the way to South Korea for the next World Scout Jamboree.

A regular stall at Seafront Sundays is one of the ways the Scouts are raising money for the World Scout Jamboree in Korea.

The local association has reached £15,000 in its bid to raise £60,000 to send 10 local Scouts to the 25th Jamboree, which starts on 1 August 2023.

So far the Scouts have signed up two significant sponsors and have been raising money at regular Seafront Sunday stalls and through car park marshalling at various events.

Nine Scouts from Guernsey were selected to go to the jamboree from a group of 40 applicants, based on different criteria such as Scouting values and their teamwork.

They have a training camp in Jersey from 17 to 23 August, where they will meet unit members from Dorset and Jersey for the first time.

‘This camp will enable them to learn what is expected of them and their behaviour through a code of conduct, adapt their communication skills, leadership and time management, team building skills, and many more activities that will allow them to have a fun journey,’ said jamboree leader Kaylee Robins.

‘I think it’s safe to say that myself and the young people have been really excited and continue to be so as time goes on and the jamboree gets closer.

‘The Scouts are definitely looking forward to this experience in a year’s time and are really working hard to raise as much as they can to remove any financial barriers.’

The Scouts’ next fundraising event is at the North Show where they will be running a stall packed with games, small crafts, and paintings painted by one of the young people’s parents.

The Scouts are also looking for businesses and corporations to sponsor the trip.
