Mr and Mrs Herm get married – in Herm, of course
A GERMAN couple were pronounced Mr and Mrs Herm when they were married – in Herm.
After 13 years together, marketing researchers Steffen and Jana travelled to the Bailiwick to tie the knot on their namesake island, despite having never visited it before.
‘It was very, very special,’ Mrs Herm said.
‘Steffen knew this island actually existed but I didn’t know.’
The couple met in Berlin on a research course and Mr Herm proposed last year.
‘He had this is mind when he proposed – I loved the idea so much.’
The couple travelled to the island with their three children and eight other family members, and enjoyed their outdoor wedding ceremony in the garden of the White House Hotel.
‘I’m really happy that we all made the whole journey and celebrated the wedding,’ Mrs Herm said.
‘We just enjoyed the island and were grateful that everything worked out nicely. No one had ever been before.’
They stayed on the island for a week before returning to Berlin yesterday.
‘The whole week has just been fantastic.
‘We had a very good time and a great ceremony in the garden. I was very happy we had a sunny day.’
Mrs Herm said she had disliked the idea of a big wedding, so was glad for the intimacy of the ceremony with Mr Herm and their families.
Despite some members of the family being in their 70s and 80s, Mrs Herm said they were all very fit and sporty so had explored the island in the sunny weather.
‘Belvoir is just beautiful,’ she added. ‘To come here was just great.’
She looked forward to returning to the island when her children, currently aged eight, six, and four, were older.
‘We definitely will return for anniversaries. It’s such a lovely place.’
