Islanders and people with a marine interest gathered at the inner harbour for the annual service.

The service was led by Alderney's vicar, the Rev. Jan Fowler.

Representatives of all the island religious groups were there to join in the ceremony, which recognises the crucial part the sea plays in the lives of the northern Channel Island community.

The RNLI lifeboat crew, the Wildlife Trust boat, fisherman, the ferry and leisure sailors all participated.

Alderney President William Tate was in attendance, as were the Alderney Churches Combined, who were represented by the Quakers, the Roman Catholics, Methodists, Salvation Army and the Anglicans.

The Island Brass section provided the backing for the traditional hymns.
