Since he began working as La Mare de Carteret’s caretaker in about 2013, Mr Done has been ‘one of the team’, according to nominator Cheryl Lowe and her family.
‘Alan is a one-off – he is kind, caring, but most of all always smiling.
‘He’s always happy and positive, rain or shine.’
She said the children ‘adore’ him.
‘He always has time for them, whether it’s a high- five or a fist bump, and he always offers help and asks if you’re OK – he brightens any day.
‘He deserved a nomination. There aren’t many people like Alan.
‘He is one of a kind and the school community would agree.’
Mr Done said he loved his job.
‘It’s just to see the children smiling,’ he said.
