Busy West Show president happy with second day crowd
A PACKED showground was the common theme of the final day of the West Show, with the brighter weather drawing more people.
By mid-afternoon, one car park was completely full and the second was well on its way.
‘There is a fantastic atmosphere and it is absolutely packed down here this afternoon,’ said West Show president Mark Le Prevost.
‘Luckily the weather has been on our side after some drizzle on Wednesday.’
Mr Le Prevost is a working president, and was keen to help out wherever he could.
‘I’ve been rushed off my feet but luckily this afternoon I’ve had a bit of time to enjoy the show,’ he said.
‘All of the acts I’ve seen so far have been fantastic.’
The birds of prey event had a four-to-five person deep crowd around the arena and the audience were also very enthusiastic about the jousters of the Knights of Nottingham.
‘The knights are absolutely awesome, the crowds have been cheering and booing along with the fights and the Guernsey knight has just beaten the one from Jersey.’
The Knights of Nottingham took to the arena in their shining armour with their six horses.
The Middle Age knights showed off their nobility and chivalry in an intense jousting battle.
It was an impressive first performance for three members of Madness Events, who displayed their agility, flexibility, strength and co-ordination through Parkour and their testing tricks.
The engaging performance saw a variety of tricks and skills, and children nominating their parents to take part in the show, with one lucky dad being jumped, somersaulted and back-flipped over.
The audience cheered for the performer they thought had the best skills.
A series of engineered lawnmower racing events drew large crowds, as did a display of birds of prey from K&H Falconry.
The Hampshire-based birds were on their first visit to the island, and when they were not in their marquee for people to see, they were flying across the arena in their two performances of the day.
Due to recent outbreaks of bird-flu, the birds of prey were the only ones to be featured at the show this year following clearance from the States vet, leaving the animal tent without its poultry entries.
Mr Le Prevost said there was lots going on for children to enjoy, and other big hits included Guernsey Bubbles, the trio jazz band and L’Assemblaie d’Guernesiaise, who danced their way around the arena.
The last day of the well-loved show was concluded with live music in the beer tent from two bands, Last of the Light Brigade and Back in Vraic.
