Festung Guernsey organises the event, alongside Guernsey Occupation Museum’s Richard Heaume.

Festung’s project co-ordinator Steve Powell said there would be four bunkers open to the public.

‘That will include our M19 bunker, which is quite an advanced mortar bunker for people to look at. We have also got our personnel shelter, which has been fully restored.’

The shell shrine, which is inside a bunker, will also be opened up. Mr Heaume will be opening up his restored 10.5 bunker.

‘It is a self-guided tour,’ Mr Powell said.

‘We will issue a plan with the route and we have experts at each of the bunkers to talk people though our work and show them all the features.’

Work has been taking place to get mains electricity out to the end of the headland.

Mr Powell said Guernsey Electricity was about halfway there and there were plans to use a PAK shelter as a distribution point. However, that work is not set to be complete until the winter, so the Festung volunteers have been checking their generators to ensure they are ready for this weekend. People are advised to park at the headland lower car park, where the maps will be available, and are encouraged to give a donation to Festung in return. There is also a small entry fee to Mr Heaume’s bunker.

The open day will run from 2 to 5pm on Saturday.
