Meet the Games team at Community Sports Fun Day
ISLANDERS will be able to meet some members of Guernsey’s Commonwealth Games team at a special fun day taking place on Saturday.
The Guernsey Sports Commission’s Utmost Community Sports Fun Day will see silver medallist bowls start Lucy Beere joined by boxer Billy Le Poullain and sprinter Abi Galpin. Sports Commission communications director and organiser of the day Nicky Will said it will be about encouraging everyone to give sport a try.
‘What better way to feel inspired than listening to how some of our top performing sportsmen and women started their sporting journeys and what motivates them to be successful?’
Team Guernsey members will not only help people engage with their sports, but there will be a question and answer session too.
More than 20 sports will be available to try and Mrs Will said everyone will be encouraged to have a go and help celebrate Team Guernsey’s ‘amazing achievements’ as well as get a close look at Lucy Beere’s silver medal.
Alastair Chalmers, who finished third in the 400m hurdles, will not be there since he has returned to the UK.
‘But we’re hoping to be joined by other members of Team Guernsey on the day,’ said Mrs Will.
n The event takes place at Saumarez Park from noon to 4pm with the Team Guernsey celebration at 3pm. Car parking at the park will be limited.
