THE fundraising campaign for St Peter Port Christmas Lights is in full force and for the month of September all donations will be matched by locally-based investment manager Ninety One.

The committee has a £40,000 target to reach by 1 October for the Christmas lights to go ahead and transform St Peter Port into the annual festive hub.

‘The donation envelopes dropped in July, but September is our time to push this campaign so we can hire the contractors for the job,’ said acting chairwoman Jax Robin.

‘We are delighted that Ninety One have partnered with us on this and will be doubling all donations made this month so we can reach our target and light up St Peter Port.’

Ninety One branched from Investec Group in 2020 and was looking to become more involved in community projects.

‘The atmosphere in St Peter Port at Christmas time is unmatched and it’s great to be a part of it,’ said Grant Cameron, managing director of Ninety One. ‘There are few better community initiatives than this one.’

This is the first year that the St Peter Port Christmas Lights has had a company double a portion of donations.

‘The cost covers the basic maintenance and testing of the previous lights and anything else raised goes towards next year’s maintenance,’ said Mrs Robin. ‘Without reaching our target, we would have to pick and choose which areas of St Peter Port to decorate.’
