But many other events have been cancelled following the death of the Queen.

A drop-in is being held between 10am and noon at Church on the Rock in New Road, St Sampson’s, to give islanders a first chance to see the detailed plans for Parc Le Lacheur – a 131-home development on the former Kenilworth Vinery site.

A planning application has been submitted by the Guernsey Housing Association for the project, which will provide social rental and partial ownership properties.

GHA chief executive Steve Williams said they had considered the matter carefully before deciding to move ahead.

‘As the planning application is in the 21 days public feedback period we feel it is important to go ahead with this open morning to help inform the public of what we wish to do on this land,’ he said.

Guernsey Electricity had planned to hold a sustainable electric transport event at North Beach on Sunday. The event has been cancelled and will be run instead next year.

The GSPCA had also planned to hold its Seafront Sunday at the weekend.

Manager Steve Byrne said they were deeply saddened by the Queen’s passing.

‘In respect of this sad time the GSPCA have decided to postpone our Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday which was due to take place this weekend,’ he said.

‘We are currently busy contacting all those involved and who were due to support our event to inform them of this decision and we are hoping to rearrange a new date in the spring of 2023, which will be part of our 150th year celebrations.’

Guernsey Museum’s Big Geekend – a two-day event celebrating offbeat hobbies and interests – has been postponed.

Proms on the Wicket was set to return to the KGV Playing Fields today, with films and family music in the afternoon, and a live broadcast of the Last Night of the Proms from London during the evening.

But the final UK Proms performances were cancelled in light of Thursday’s news.

A local organiser said that the decision had been taken not to hold the Proms on the Wicket event this year.

‘Having spoken to the sponsors, all have agreed it is the right thing to do, as have the conductors of the Little Big Band Collective, the Guernsey Welsh Male Voice Choir and Bel Canto, who have all committed to perform at the 2023 event,’ she said.

‘We are obviously incredibly disappointed but hope everyone will understand the reasons behind the decision.’

The Eisteddfod Society’s centenary concert, scheduled for last last night at Beau Sejour, was also cancelled.
