The event will see the school’s 400 pupils in attendance and be led by Canon Michael Hore, former Catholic Dean of Guernsey, who is paying a short visit to the island.

The parish Mass service starts at 9.15 and members of the public are invited to attend, although college principal Robert O’Brien said spaces will be limited.

‘I am sure this will be a beautiful and fitting service as she goes on her final spiritual journey,’ he said.

The school’s commemoration of Her Majesty has included placing the official Platinum Jubilee portrait of the late Queen and a book of condolence outside its chapel: ‘It will be very interesting to read how the students express their thoughts and feelings about the Queen in their own words and tributes,’ said Mr O’Brien.

School assembly the morning after the Queen’s death saw prayers used that had been received overnight from the bishops of England and Wales for the Queen, the Royal family and King Charles III.

‘We then announced the opportunities for student leadership, and based the idea of leadership on Queen Elizabeth II’s example of service. The assembly ended with the national anthem and the students left the hall in complete silence.’

Year 6 pupil Louis Hargreaves said he had found the news fascinating over the last few days: ‘I’ve never seen a head of state who has died before. The people involved look really well trained and it was interesting to see the plane that took her from Scotland to London.’

Amity Horton, also in Year 6, said she loved how the country had been brought closer together: ‘I like how everyone has come together to think about it and everyone stopped by the side of the road as a mark of respect as her car passed by.’
