Islands are on the same page in relation to sea links, says Inder
GUERNSEY and Jersey could work more closely together, as Economic Development president Neil Inder said his Jersey counterpart was ‘someone he could do business with’.
A meeting was held last week, between Jersey’s new Economic Development minister Kirsten Morel, and Deputy Inder, Economic Development member Sasha Kazantseva-Miller, and Policy & Resources president Peter Ferbrache.
Discussions focused on sea links and opportunities to work together more effectively in areas such as regulation.
Deputy Morel said he welcomed the commitment to a joint approach on sea links.
‘This was a very good meeting, and the start of a closer working relationship between our respective committees and departments,’ he said.
Deputy Inder said it was a constructive and candid meeting.
‘We are on the same page in relation to sea links,’ he said.
‘We will continue the discussions. Deputy Morel is a States member Guernsey can do business with, of that I’m sure.
‘Our islands have similar issues in all areas of government – with the right people in the right place, I’m sure our two governments could find partnerships of mutual benefit in all areas, not only regulation and sea links, but in big-ticket items such as procurement. The trick will be not to lose momentum, prove ourselves on smaller projects and see where we can go together.’
Deputy Morel also met with Deputy Rob Prow over telecoms security and with Deputy Kazantseva-Miller at the Digital Greenhouse.
