Plucky Penny abseils cliff for charity

ABSEILING down a cliff face at Le Guet was the second daring challenge completed by Penny Muir-Field to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Just three weeks ago she skydived out of a plane over the west coast after 12 months of delays, which she said she was petrified about doing for beforehand.

But her fundraising attempts were not going to stop there.

‘I’m scared of heights,’ she said.

‘Getting onto the top of the cliff is horrible – I think overall that was worse than the skydive.’

After completing the first trip down the steep drop, the instructor asked her if she wanted to do it again, which she refused.

But after some gentle convincing, she made her way back up the hill and strapped herself in for a second abseil.

‘It wasn’t the plan to do it twice. I am relieved it is done now.’

She decided to challenge herself after her daughter Holly shaved her head at school to raise money for cancer charities.

Her family and friends were there to cheer her on throughout the abseil, although she did come away with a few cuts and scratches from hitting the rock face.

Mrs Muir-Field has not decided if or when she will be continuing her fundraising, but is still trying to come up with ideas.

‘I keep asking myself what is next, but I’m not sure. I think it’s someone else’s turn now,’ she said.

As of Sunday, Mrs Muir-Field had raised £6,315 for the charity.
