Deputy Bailiff Jessica Roland officially opened the new the sexual health clinic site, opposite the Guernsey Information Centre.

‘Our new premises mean that our facilities finally match the high quality of care and service the brilliant team at Choices strive for,’ said the charity’s service manager and nurse Fiona Hardy.

Previously based in the Pollet, Choices’ new premises are bigger and provide five treatment rooms and updated facilities.

The new site is also more accessible to wheelchair users and people with buggies.

‘The new clinic gives us an exciting opportunity to develop our services, as we continue to meet the needs of our community and the ever-changing requirements of contraceptive and sexual health provision,’ said Mrs Hardy.

When it started life as the Family Planning Clinic in the 1970s, the charity offered one clinic a week.

Choices now has more than 20 clinic hours a week, provided by a team of 11.

The building was previously occupied by First Contact Health.

Mrs Hardy said Choices was grateful for the financial support it received from Health & Social Care and in particular its close working relationship with director of Public Health Dr Nicola Brink.

Among the services it provides is free contraception to under 21-year-olds.

‘Figures show us that for every pound spent on teenage pregnancy prevention and contraceptive subsidisation, as much as £11 is saved across the public sector,’ said Choices’ clinical lead Dr Lucy Joslin.
