THE grassy roundabout area outside the hospital main entrance has been removed, as modernisation work takes place.

The raised area, which had flowers, grass and shrubbery on it, has now been paved over to make space for a crane.

‘To progress the scheduled works which are under way to deliver our essential Hospital Modernisation Programme, we need to locate a crane where the roundabout used to be for a period of time,’ said a Health & Social Care spokesman.

‘The changes have been fully communicated to our staff and service users and the Porters Lodge entrance has never, and is not scheduled to be, closed as a result of these works.’

Fences have also been put up to prevent people from entering the construction area.

Phase one of the regeneration programme will include work to improve the Critical Care and Post Anaesthetic Care units, relatives and staff facilities, and infrastructure as a whole.

The second phase, if approved by the States, will begin in 2024, and that would involve developing the area outside the Porters Lodge.
