Janette Kay-Mouat said she was extremely upset after coming home to see five of her beloved chickens strewn across her Vale garden, with one having its head missing.

One chicken was missing initially, but returned to the home later a few days later.

‘They were part of the family,’ she said.

Neighbours had already spoken to a dog walker whose dogs had been running around in their gardens, and it is believed to have made its way into the garden with the chickens in it. However this has not been confirmed.

It was only an hour after this that Ms Kay-Mouat returned home from work.

The chickens had only been bought around four weeks ago and had been living in the shed due to safety concerns, moving into an enclosed run only last week.

In the first incident, the chickens were in an open run where they could get out, so this time an enclosed run was bought for extra protection.

However the dogs had managed to move it away from where it had stood, something that usually requires two people, to make their way inside.

She urged dog walkers not to let their dogs out of their sight and to show greater control of their animals.

‘Please make sure you know where your dogs are,’ she said.

Feathers were clearly visible inside the closed run which housed the six chickens. (31445676)

Police have been notified but Ms Kay-Mouat said she was not looking to press charges, but raise awareness on this type of incident.

. The incident occurred in the area of La Rue de la Maraive, Vale, between 7am and 5pm on Wednesday 2 November.
