At the harbour he took a tour on a harbour rib, viewed the inter-island and commercial quays, and visited the new Vessel Traffic Services facility, located at the Pier Heads.

At the airport he was updated on the latest projects in the terminal and the control tower building.

‘It was a pleasure and an education to visit two locations that are so important to our community and our way of life,’ His Excellency said.

‘I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to meet some of the team that undertake such essential work on our behalf.’

Ross Coppolo, Guernsey Ports chief operating officer, said: ‘We were delighted to welcome His Excellency and Mrs Cripwell to the airport and show him the facilities we have.

‘He met a number of the airport team who work hard to keep our airport functioning in all weathers, 365 days of the year. There was also an opportunity to show His Excellency our harbour facilities, particularly as it undergoes a number of changes to respond to the island’s future transportation requirements and the infrastructure demands of the next decade.’
