The last time Jenny Tasker was a St Peter Port parish constable was in 2020. She beat Diane Mitchell by 18 votes in what returning officer Barry Cash described as a well run race. (31433440)

There were 256 votes, with Mrs Tasker achieving 137. ‘It was a well run race,’ said returning officer Barry Cash.

There was also competition for douzaine seats as eight candidates pursued the seven spots leaving Arron Hawke the only candidate to miss out, trailing by 31 votes.

Mary McDermott was clear at the top of the douzaine election polls, with a 40-vote lead – obtaining nearly a fifth of all votes cast. Serving as douzenier alongside Ms McDermott will be Denyse McGahy, Christopher Hudson, Christopher Nicolle and Michael Garrett, who will all serve a four-year term with Philip Smith serving two years and Thomas Moore completing a one- year term.

Zoe Lihou, who will be partnered with Mrs Tasker as constable, said she was looking forward to working with an experienced constable to fulfil the parish’s needs and work on capital expenditure.

‘There’s a lot of project work that will be pushed forward and we’ll look at what’s fallen through the gaps,’ she said.

Mrs Tasker was a parish constable in 2020 and said she was excited to be sworn in on 1 January 2023 – already having plans she wanted to implement.

‘We’ve got to all work together as a team and work more closely with the States,’ she said.

One of her initial aims is to start improving the computerised roadworks system currently in place.

‘The system doesn’t take into consideration what effect one road closure may have on more than one other,’ she said.

Mrs Tasker will hold the role of parish constable for a three-year term.
