The trail, organised by Guernsey Post, will see several Bailiwick postboxes receive yuletide makeovers from local crochet artist Tamara O’Brien, whose creations first appeared on postboxes around the island to raise people’s spirits during lockdown.

She has been busy creating seven festive toppers which will soon appear on postboxes, each bearing a letter.

When joined together, the seven letters spell out a word associated with Christmas.

‘Christmas is my favourite time of year, so I am really excited to be part of this project with Guernsey Post,’ said Mrs O’Brien.

‘It’s been a bit of a push to complete all seven post box toppers, as we only decided on the Christmas trail a few weeks ago, and each topper can take that amount of time. I have really enjoyed bringing my different ideas to life. I hope everyone has fun doing the trail.’

Guernsey Post marketing assistant Bethan Griffiths said: ‘Tamara’s creations have brightened up Guernsey’s postboxes for several months now and her Christmas-themed toppers are bound to get children and their families in the festive spirit.

‘She’s worked incredibly hard to complete all the designs in time for the Christmas Trail, so it would be fantastic to see lots of children across the Bailiwick taking part and entering the competition.’

The competition, which runs from 1-19 December, is open to school children in KS1 (Reception to Year 2) and KS2 (Year 3 to Year 6), with a £50 Aladdin’s Cave voucher for one lucky winner in each key stage.

The Christmas themed crochet toppers will be located at seven locations: Market Steps, Town Church, The Bordage –St Peter Port, Waitrose Rohais, Morrisons L’Islet, St Martin’s Co-op and Envoy House.
