The pupils took part a competition, sponsored by Moonpig, to design their own Christmas cards to raise money for the hospice.

Louie Bell, 10, from Vale Primary School, said that it felt really good to win the age nine to 12 category with his card featuring a Christmas pig.

‘I wasn’t expecting to win at all,’ he said.

‘I got the pig idea from Moonpig and then added a candy cane on the tail because I like candy canes, and holly to its ear because it’s Christmassy.’

More than 130 students entered the competition, and the winning designs will be sold at the hospice shop.

The two winners and two runners-up each received a number of their printed cards to send to friends and family.

They also received an exclusive tour of Les Bourgs’ adjustable beds and new kinetic art sand table.

‘We were really impressed with all of the designs,’ said Liz Stonebridge, of Les Bourgs.

‘Things like this raise the profile of the hospice, and it’s a different and fun way to engage with younger children and teach them about the hospice.’

Moonpig had chosen Les Bourgs as its charity of the year, and came up with the idea to host the card competition.

The company will be matching all donations made from the competition and card sales.

‘The entries were fantastic and very imaginative. It was difficult to narrow them down and then to choose a winner,’ said Mark Brook, from Moonpig’s charity committee.
