Christmas comes to the museum

CHRISTMAS arrived at the Guernsey Museum last weekend, as crowds of islanders turned out for the first of three festive Sundays.

Arts and crafts, themed trails and Christmas films all tied into this year’s theme of discovery, to go with the Wonder Room Timewarp area.

Different facts about Christmas were on display inside the galleries, ranging from festive words in Guernesiaise, to how Christmas food differs across the world.

In the Discovery Room, Claudia Pozo was getting stuck into hand-knitting with her two daughters, using instructions provided by the museum.

‘This is the first time we have come to Candie Christmas, but about the fifth time at the museum,' she said.

‘We arrived in Guernsey from Peru last year and paid for the whole year Discovery Pass.'

Her children, Lara, 9, and Lucy, 12, were both in the Christmas spirit and looking forward to presents in a couple of weeks.

Visitors could collect stickers from each station along the trail, and each Sunday there will be stories read by Guille-Alles Library staff between 10am and noon.

Access and learning manager Jo Dowding was helping out with the arts and crafts room.

‘We will have artists based in here creating Victorian toys and other bits. We are so lucky to have two artists – Joe Kincaid and Marcel Lenormand – on hand to do this,’ she said.

The museum shop has a variety of Christmas gifts and trinkets on sale, with Discovery Pass holders receiving a 10% discount.
