A SERIOUS fight heralded the start of the latest ‘Tweet on the Beat’ initiative from Guernsey Police on Friday night, which led to four people being arrested and one taken to hospital.

It was described as a ‘resource-intensive incident’ in the first of the evening’s social media posts, which said that officers from the early shift continued working to hand over the investigation to the late shift

Unlike the 24-hour exercise earlier in the year, this was described as a ‘lite’ edition, running through the night only.

It was being staged to highlight Operation Ultraviolet, which was targeting drink-related crime in particular, including sexual assaults, groping and alleged drink spiking alongside drinking and driving.

While some officers continued working on the fight investigation, others dealt with a variety of offences, which included another fight at a different bar in Town.

Other than that they handled allegations of harassment, a case of criminal damage in the Delancey area, a domestic incident and a case involving mental health.

At around midnight it was reported that ‘things have settled down compared to earlier (touch wood)’ which was soon followed by officers being called to the Lower Pollet by a doorman requesting assistance.

Elsewhere routine drink-driving checks were taking place and several people were found to not be wearing their seatbelts, described as one of the ‘fatal four’ road offences.

Later, a car was stopped after being clocked doing 55mph, a chance for the force to point out that ‘just because the roads are clear at this time of night doesn’t mean the speed limits don’t apply’.

There was a report of another arrest of someone on suspicion of assault at the North Plantation, with an ambulance called to care for the victim, before the posting exercise came to a close after referring to ‘a few more incidents getting wrapped up post-kick out in Town’.
