The original plans for the Kings Road site were submitted in January, but a decision is still pending.

A letter from Gary Naftel, of architects Naftel Associates, from earlier this month has been submitted with the amended plans.

That revealed that in May a major review of the plans was conducted, looking at external design, the overall layout and energy efficiency.

‘The review process has taken considerable time, and we have considered these improvements to enhance the design, optimise the layout and function, both internally and externally within the whole development,’ Mr Naftel said in the letter.

The club fought to get planning permission in 2016 for 10 local market units and three open market penthouses, after four years of discussion with the planners. There was strong public opposition.

But despite permission being granted, that project did not move forward, due to uncertainty in the property market and the pandemic.

These plans would see four two-bed and two three- bed dwellings in one block, and nine two-bed and two three-beds in the other.

They would be built on two of the tennis courts closest to King’s Road. It would leave the club with four courts.

Extra dormer windows have been added to the front of the homes, and also balconies to come of the homes on the upper levels.

The unit designs were adjusted so they met the minimum requirements.
