New arrival Odin is third in family born on New Year’s Day
NEW Year’s Day is now marked by three birthdays in the family of baby Odin Curtis-Moon, who shares his birthday with two of his grandparents.
When mum Ebony Moon went into labour on New Year’s Eve she said she could not believe it. ‘I thought it was some sort of joke,’ she said.
Her mother was born on 1 January 1970 and her partner Chance Curtis’ father came into the world on 1 January 1976.
Odin surprised everyone by arriving 11 days ahead of schedule, but later than anticipated given how large Ms Moon had been during the later stages of her pregnancy.
He had been expected on Christmas Day, she said, due to his size. ‘But he came out absolutely tiny.’
When he arrived just after 8.30am on New Year’s Day, weighing a modest 6lb 5oz, the couple ended up having to quickly find smaller clothes than what they had ready.
To help them buy a few more items for him, they were presented with a £100 Creasey’s gift voucher by the Guernsey Lions Club, which for the last few years has celebrated the arrival of a baby on New Year’s Day by offering them a special golden lion money box with the voucher, flowers and some bubbly for the parents.
The idea was the brainchild of midwife and club member Denise Bennett, said president Paul Allaway.
‘There’s a lot going on for parents at the time and it gives them a helping hand,’ he said, ‘and it tries to promote the saving ethos’.
For Odin’s big sister, Bella-May, 4, his arrival was as exciting as the scooter Father Christmas had brought her.
‘I can’t wait to feed him,’ she said.
