The senior States committee, Policy & Resources, with the support of Employment & Social Security president Peter Roffey, will appear at three public sessions and an online session over the next two weeks in a final bid to hear from and influence the public over the proposals to change the income tax and social security systems and introduce a goods and services tax at 5%.

‘What the States decides in its January debate on the Tax Review will have major consequences for the community for many years to come.

‘But we fully recognise this is a difficult decision and many islanders have concerns. The solutions are not simple, and we want to give as much time as possible to answering questions and explaining how we’ve come to these recommendations,’ said P&R president Deputy Peter Ferbrache.

The sessions start next Tuesday from 7pm with a live Q&A on Facebook, with Deputies Ferbrache, Mark Helyar, Dave Mahoney and Peter Roffey involved, answering questions which can be posted on Facebook during the session.

On the morning of Saturday 14 January the deputies will be available for one-to-one conversations with people between 10am and noon.

On Tuesday 17 January there will be a public presentation in the theatre at Beau Sejour, followed by a Q&A.

The event will also be livestreamed on the States Facebook page.

The deputies will head to Alderney on Saturday 21 January for a public drop-in at the Butes Centre between 10am and noon.
