The move comes after the autumn booster programme – aimed at islanders aged over 50 and healthcare workers – was wrapped up before Christmas. The CVC has been based at the site in St Martin’s since the summer. It had previously been based at Beau Sejour.

A Health & Social Care spokesman confirmed the closure.

‘No future vaccine programme has been recommended by the JCVI at this stage. Should that change the CVC will be set up again, with the location to be determined at the time based on the needs of the programme.’

The booster programme ended on 21 December. By then 73% of eligible people had received a jab.

The biggest take up was in cohort three – which covered those aged 75 to 79 – which saw 94% have their booster.

However, this rate steadily dropped as it went down the age groups, with 58% of 55- to 59-year-olds and 46% of 50- to 54 years olds getting their jabs.

In priority groups of care home staff and residents and Health & Social Care workers and those aged over 80 about 75% of people got the jab.

Cohort six, which covers at-risk people, saw 63% choose to have the booster. Overall, just less than 21,000 people were vaccinated of an eligible 28,640.

Overall, 178,525 doses of vaccine have been given since the start of the programme, of which just over 1,000 were given in the last month. Vaccine take-up in Guernsey has been quite high, with about 85% of islanders having received at least one dose of vaccine. This compares with about 79% in the UK.

In England more than 15m. people have had an autumn booster.
