Amateur photographer Marco Tersigni is hoping that enough people will join him at 10am on Sunday to fill the street in the same way as the photo taken on 9 May 1945.

The photo will feature in his forthcoming book, Occupied Past & Present – from the exact spot, which is almost complete.

‘We have been keeping this one back for the end,’ said Mr Tersigni. ‘Its an iconic photo and shows islanders who had gathered to hear the Liberation proclamation from Brigadier Snow.

‘We want as many people as possible to join us on Sunday.

‘They can be dressed however they like, we just want to try and recreate that happy atmosphere.’

He is writing the book alongside local historian Simon Hamon, who has supplied most of the original images from the Occupation.

Mr Hamon is a serving police officer and will be joined by some of his colleagues and from St John’s Emergency Ambulance Service to help re-create the look or the original.

Mr Tersigni’s first book, Guernsey Past and Present – from the exact spot, came out before Christmas and sold out.

His past and present images feature in the Guernsey Press on Saturdays.

Mr Hamon and Mr Tersigni have arranged to have the road closed while the photoshoot is taking place, and have asked anyone who wants to be in the photo to be at the Royal Court shortly before 10am.
