Guernsey’s tourism hub was placed just behind three northern destinations Gosforth, and Borrowdale in the Lake District, and the village of Ingoldmells near Skegness.

‘It’s fantastic news that Guernsey has appeared in Tripadvisor’s Spring Travel Index,’ said Tourism Management Board chairwoman Hannah Beacom.

‘For St Peter Port to feature in the top five fastest-growing destinations is really encouraging, and a reflection of all those across the industry who are working to positively market the islands.'

The data was collected from both an online consumer survey and data sourced from Tripadvisor, and Ms Beacom said it provided valuable insight into what the UK visitor market is thinking in terms of travel for this year.

'To know that we are on a wish list for UK consumers is really promising. We are hopeful that this enthusiasm we are seeing for Guernsey as a destination will be reflected in an upbeat season for 2023.’

Tripadvisor’s Spring Travel Index uses a combination of demand and sentiment data to reveal British people’s attitudes to travel over the next three months.

The north of England dominates the list, with the Lake District continuing to be a hot spot for British holidaymakers staying close to home, with almost half of the Top 10 fastest-growing domestic destinations located there.

Seaside towns make up almost half of the list, and that includes Guernsey and the Isle of Man.

The survey said that almost three-quarters of British people were planning trips this spring, compared to just over half in the same period last year.

Despite the rising cost-of-living in the UK, travel is a growing priority. Almost half intend to travel more than they did last year, and similar numbers plan to spend more too on their British holiday.
