The monthly bills will now include assigned low-rate times and percentage of electricity used by the customer in each band.
This should be easier to understand and also show customers where they can amend their usage to take advantage of low-rate times.
‘Our aim is to help islanders not only understand their electricity bills, but the way in which they consume electricity and how it impacts their bill,’ said Guernsey Electricity head of customer experience, Steven Parks.
‘By simply moving some of their electricity usage into those low-rate periods, known as Economy 12, consumers will pay less than half the price per unit for powering the same appliance compared to the standard rate times, and can better manage their usage.’
Guernsey Electricity has also switched to printing on-island, which has reduced the number of links in the supply chain so customers can receive their statements faster.
The changes support the introduction of paper-less billing last summer, giving customers the opportunity to receive their bills digitally by email, providing instant access and eliminating paper waste.
‘Our aim is eventually to move away from mass printing and posting of statements, but we understand that this takes time,’ said Mr Parks.
‘We would like to encourage customers to help us help the environment and make the switch to paperless bills.’
