This was the first event of its kind organised by Guernsey Touch’s sports committee and saw more than 50 players take part and raise £510 for the charity.

It was organised by the club’s social secretary and fundraising lead Chrissie Ferbrache, who said that as well as raising money, the aim was to increase the amount of social events and tournaments. The committee had looked for a way to run a tournament during the winter.

‘We had a successful event last summer and the response from the community was “more, more, more”,’ he said.

‘But we knew that weather could impact the success of this. By creating a charity tournament, there was more motivation to attend knowing that people in need would benefit from this. Thankfully we were blessed with gorgeous weather and everyone had a great time while making a difference.’

Teams taking paid a small fee per player and Guernsey Touch provided the pitches.

The winning team was able to select a charity to benefit from all the entry fees and a group of players known as Aon Tigers, which was entered by Jacques Le Vallee, chose Guernsey Welfare as the beneficiaries.

‘At a time such as this where many people on the island are struggling with the impact of cost of living increasing, we felt Guernsey Welfare would be the ideal charity to give this fantastic sum,’ said Mr Le Vallee.

The charity provides services to help local families going through challenging times, including a food bank, practical support, life coaching or money skills training.

‘We were amazed to be picked by Aon Tigers as their chosen charity and so grateful to be receiving over £500 from such a fantastic event,’ said Sue Le Friec from Guernsey Welfare.

The money will be used to buy much-needed replacement office supplies to enable the charity to continue its work.
