Hauteville House reopens for summer season

HAUTEVILLE HOUSE has reopened for the summer season and administrator Odile Blanchette is hoping that this year will see visitor numbers returning to almost pre-pandemic levels. The 19th century home to Victor Hugo, in exile from France, had 25,000 visitors in 2019, but while it did open a couple of times during 2020 and 2021, to locals only, it was not until last year that visitor numbers started to creep up, when some 13,000 people were received. Mrs Blanchette is optimistic that the recovery will continue this year – she hopes that maybe 20,000 would pass through its doors during the season. The team are pictured in the tapestry room.
