Organised by the Guernsey Marine Traders Association, there will be a range of yachts and motorboats on display, alongside the latest marine equipment.

‘We’ve had a phenomenal increase in boat ownership since the pandemic, when people realised they couldn’t travel and secondly, what a beautiful place we live in with nearby islands and the French coast,’ said GMTA president David Norman.

‘We’re expecting about 40 boats, depending on the weather for the delivery of the boats over the next couple of days, as some are from Jersey.’

A large marquee will be erected on the end of the Crown Pier, which will feature exhibitors, such as Boatworks+, Marine & General and Herm Seaway Marine, which will be showing off their services.

Of the large range of boats, the most expensive could cost up to £1m.

Some smaller boats are offered on a shared basis, so the work is more manageable and maintenance costs are reduced.

‘There’s lots of Ribs and day boats which are popular to the local market these days,’ said assistant harbour master Kieran Higgs, who will be able to talk through any questions that potential boat-buyers may have.

‘There will be a mix of yachts and motor boats, but generally the demand seems to be in motor boats at the moment.’

He anticipated that most people would be looking at entry-level boats and day boats, but those who are already on the boating ladder may be looking to up-size.

The harbours’ work boat will be in the marina, as will the dive barge, with staff members to provide information on their roles.

The lifeboats will also be out, with the inshore vessel inside the marina, and the all-weather Spirit of Guernsey outside.

‘Sales are a long-term process with boats because it is the second largest purchase people make after their house,’ said Mr Norman.

‘We speak about boats that people want in five years’ time. The boat show helps to refine their choice and what suits them and their family best.

‘Our show is free so people can come down on Friday and have a quick look, they can bring the family on Saturday and then do a sea trial on Sunday.’

Dinghies with electric outboards and boats can be trialled after show hours for prospective buyers.

  • The Guernsey Boat Show is running on Friday and Saturday between 10am and 6pm. The end of the Crown Pier will be closed to parking on these days, but the main part of the pier will remain open.
