Bryony Nicholls and three other women were in the sea at Chouet on Wednesday evening when the man, who was said to be driving a red convertible car, started flashing his car’s lights at them.

Mrs Nicholls said that after about half an hour in the water, one of her nieces got out and walked up the slipway.

The man confronted her and tried to talk to her, but she walked away from him.

The rest of the women came out of the sea soon afterwards and went to get changed behind the kiosk.

While they were doing this, the man sat on the bonnet of his car and stared in their direction.

‘We noticed what he was doing, so we took some photos of him,’ Mrs Nicholls said.

‘At this point he panicked, got into his car and left. Why would he do that if he didn’t think he was doing something wrong?’

She shared the women’s experiences with fellow sea swimmer Min Henry, who posted the story on private Facebook group ‘Guernsey Swim All Seasons – Seize The Bay’.

The group has over 3,500 members.

‘I thought it was important to raise awareness of something like this, especially to those women who swim alone,’ Mrs Nicholls said.

She added that she was not sure if the man had committed any offence, but that he had made all four women feel uncomfortable.

‘His behaviour was very odd. Hopefully this might make him stop and think about his behaviour in future.’

Guernsey Police confirmed the matter had been reported, but no further action was being taken at this stage.

They encourage people to make a report if they see any suspicious or inappropriate activity.

If there are further issues, islanders should contact the police.
