Mim Sarre has run the kiosk below the Guet for several years, but has struggled with the lack of outdoor space, with just a small patio in front of the kiosk

A planning application has now been submitted to expand the patio round to the north-east side of the building

‘This additional space will help Mim’s Kiosk to efficiently serve their customers and enhance the overall public experience,’ said Tom Bourgaize, from architecture firm The Drawing Room.

A pizza van would be parked on the site to improve the catering facilities, but the vehicle would be regularly moved to serve other outdoor catering events.

The project would also include planters and a timber pergola. The expanded seating area would be partially paved with granite, while the rest would have gravel.

‘We note the proposed construction work is relatively minor and lightweight in nature and could be reverted later, if required,’ Mr Bourgaize said.

‘Our client hopes to complete the work by the end of June 2023 to tie in with the tourism season and the commencement of the Island Games.

'This would require construction work to commence by the start of June 2023. We would therefore be very grateful if the department can support this by fast-tracking this application.’

He said any delay could see the work postponed to next summer.

Castel Douzaine stated it was largely supportive of the plans, but was slightly concerned about the view of a bright pink pizza van. It also asked the planners to ensure the van be restricted to parking in the location mentioned in the application.

Outdoor Guernsey often operates from Cobo, and Ant Ford Parker from the outdoor adventure business said his customers had spoken positively about the business.

‘The space that is currently used for seating and deliveries is very cramped at the moment, and there are often problems with managing access,’ he said in the application.

‘The extra space creation proposed

will greatly improve access to the kiosk and to the beachfor the general public. Delivery access will be improved enhancing safety and cleanliness in the area.’
