Unusually quiet goods boot sale for boatowners
A BOATING goods boot sale was surprisingly quiet on Saturday.
The annual event, which is organised by the Guernsey Boat Owners’ Association, is normally very busy, with stalls quickly being cleared.
But the Beaucette pitches were quiet on Saturday morning.
Association president Nick Guillemette said he had expected it to be busier.
‘It’s disappointing,’ he said.
It was also a quiet year for sellers, with just three tables.
Mr Guillemette was selling a few items from his barn, including a pair of his son’s freediving flippers, which had gone unusued for some time.
‘It will make more space,’ he said.
Mr Guillemette said any money he made would be donated to the RNLI.
‘The RNLI is like our big brother – they keep everyone safe,’ he said.
Keen fisherman Brian Lowe, 81, was also selling goods at the event.
‘There are some boat parts, some drills and bits and pieces that people will need for their boat,’ he said.
‘There is stuff you collect over the years and I have duplicates, which are still usable.’
He was sad that more people did not turn out.
Organisers were left wondering if arranging the event during the Easter school holidays was a factor, or whether the rain on Saturday morning had kept potential customers away.
