Islanders have shown lots of attention towards the two geese, who are unable to stay with their owner as she is moving and the new owners of the property do not want them.

‘We’ve had lots of interest, and we’re hoping we can find them a lovely home with a large pond, which is what they’re used to,’ said Animal Aid founder Sue Vidamour.

‘I put the post out on social media and I was shocked by the amount of response, but people have had good suggestions such as quarries and other locations for possible options.’

The current owner of the geese has had them since they were born, and they are well-loved and friendly.

She has also offered to pay for food and any veterinary bills for as long as they live.

‘These geese are most definitely pets, and the owner absolutely adores them,’ said Mrs Vidamour.

‘Hopefully their new home will have a natural pond and flowers with lots of space.’

A potential owner is on the cards for the geese, who also keeps ducks and chickens with fields surrounding the area.

Geese are social animals, and should be kept in pairs at least.

Domestic geese typically live up to 25 years, but Mrs Vidamour knows of a goose who died aged 28, shortly after its partner died.

‘Geese mate for life, and so if their partner dies they can get very depressed,’ she said.

The post on the Animal Aid Facebook page has racked up hundreds of comments and shares, and Mrs Vidamour hopes that the reach will find the pair of geese a new home.
