Children are being encouraged to get creative in the kitchen with free baking bottles filled with the ingredients to make cupcakes for 9 May.

When added to milk, butter and eggs, each bottle will contain enough ingredients to make 12 cupcakes

‘It is crucial that local children learn about such a significant day in the island’s history,’ said Deputy Sue Aldwell, a member of Education, Sport & Culture.

‘The baking bottles and activity packs are a fun way for them to get involved with celebrating Guernsey’s freedom.’

The activity packs include themed crosswords, word searches and colouring sheets.

A Liberation cavalcade checklist is also available.

It is hoped the creative activities will be a fun way for children and their families to get involved with Liberation celebrations.

Credit Suisse is supporting the project.

‘We are very excited to be supporting Bailiwick children in commemorating Liberation Day again this year,’ said chief executive Glen Tonks.

‘We hope these creative activities will bring families together on this day of celebration and we encourage parents and guardians to come and pick up a pack.’

Materials can be collected from a stand in Market Square between noon and 2pm today and tomorrow.

One bottle and one activity pack can be collected per family.
