It is usually held in the constables’ office, but the parish has also tried to make itself accessible by hosting drop-ins at Beau Sejour and the Bathing Pools.

This time a table was set up in Church Square, where a few douzeniers and Constable Jenny Tasker were ready to talk to parishioners on issues of interest.

However, the only queries they ended up answering came from people looking for directions.

Douzenier Chris Nicolle said they would probably use the venue again because of its prominence.

‘I think there are a significant number of residents who aren’t aware of where the constables’ office is. This makes us more visible,’ he said.

He felt that would be particularly useful for people who had recently moved to the island, as well as for more established residents.

But he said the relevance and role of the parochial authorities needed to be increased by giving them a say on planning applications and requests to close roads.

Although it was a quiet morning for the officials, douzenier Simon De La Mare said that as many as 20 people could turn up to some drop-ins when there was a big issue affecting the parish.

n The next drop-in is scheduled for 10 June at Beau Sejour Centre.
