Some 1,000 people spent their May Day bank holiday walking 20km round the island’s coastal paths to raise money and awareness for some of the poorest countries in the world.

‘We are very pleased with this total, and it ended up being a really great event,’ said World Aid Walk committee member Louise Smith.

The coastal path-focused walk from Port Soif to L’Ancresse and back was in its 53rd year. The proceeds raised this year will be distributed between ActionAid, Christian Aid, the Eleanor Foundation, This is Epic and the Tumaini Fund.

The Overseas Aid & Development Commission will match the funds raised by participants, racking up a total of more than £44,000.
