Alderney ferry put out of action by hitting object
ALDERNEY Ferry Services’ Causeway Explorer will be out of action for at least two weeks after it hit an object behind the Alderney breakwater last Thursday.
In a statement, the company said that it had chartered the boat to another local company to carry out a private wildlife tour around Alderney when the incident occurred.
‘The local skipper, who was not an employee of Alderney Ferry Services, took the helm for the tour. However, while behind the Alderney breakwater, and going at just four knots, he clipped a submerged object.’
No passengers or crew were injured, and the boat managed to make it back to Alderney harbour for an out-of-water inspection for damage, and then to the East Arm of the QE2 marina in St Peter Port for repairs.
The company had initially chartered local skipper Buz White and his boat Access Challenger to help with service rotations, but a new, temporary catamaran from Brixham, Spot On, has been hired as cover and began service yesterday evening for the next two weeks.
‘Our main priority looking forward for the next couple of weeks is to provide the reliable service which we are accustomed to but without Causeway Explorer,’ the statement from Alderney Ferry Services said.
It added that Causeway Explorer would be back in action soon.
