Former States’ key worker housing could soon be sold

A HOUSE once used to accommodate States’ key workers is close to being sold after being empty for several years.

North View at Cobo was bought by the States in 1987 and was put up for sale in January 2022. While it was used for some time as accommodation for Health & Social Care staff, Policy & Resources said that failings in the electricity system were found in 2018 and it was vacated.

‘Assessments of the necessary works were made and options considered, however during the pandemic resources were limited,’ said a committee spokesman.

The property might now appear habitable but was not ideal for key workers due to a lack of en-suite bedrooms, which he said have become preferable following the pandemic, especially for healthcare staff.

Internal inquiries were made within the States to find some other use for the property, but none was found.

‘On balance it was decided that disposal was the preferable option.’

After it was put onto the market there were several enquiries from sectors that were also having trouble finding staff accommodation, and it is one of these sectors that is set to purchase the building.

‘An offer has now been accepted and it is expected that the property will be sold in the near future,’ said the spokesman.

The property has been on the Cranford’s estate agents site, where it was advertised for £1.2m.

The 12-bedroom, four-bathroom, three-storey house stands on Route de Carteret, across the road from Iceland at Cobo.

The estate agent suggests on the selling page that, subject to the relevant planning permissions, the property could be developed into apartments or put back to individual houses.

However, purchasers are warned that it would be a renovation project.
