30 Bays in 30 Days sea swim fundraiser celebrates 10 years
GUERNSEY’S annual sea swimming challenge is back next month for its 10th year.
The 30 Bays in 30 Days challenge, sponsored by Rocq Capital, has helped to rekindle many islanders’ love of sea swimming and raises funds for Les Bourgs Hospice.
‘This event is very special to me as it was set up in memory of my mum and another close family member who were cared for at Les Bourgs Hospice,’ said event founder Liz Stonebridge, who now works at the organisation.
‘It has been amazing to see the increase in popularity of sea swimming over the years as I think it is so important that we make the most of our stunning little island and the diversity of swim spots and swimming experiences that it provides.’
Swimmers must do a minimum of 30 strokes in 30 bays on a list designed by organisers to promote some lesser-known spots and to spend time with friends and family.
‘I swim regularly, so for me 30 Bays in 30 Days is not about getting in the water but the unique memories that the challenge brings,’ said Miss Stonebridge.
‘Whether people have supported it before or have been thinking about doing it but never signed up, this should be the year to get involved to help us not only celebrate the event’s 10th birthday, but also raise important funds for the hospice.’
Participants who register for the main event or a smaller family-friendly version – which covers nine bays in 30 days – before midnight on 25 June will be entered into a prize draw to win one of 10 prizes, including an overnight stay at the iconic Fermain Tower and vouchers for restaurants, beach kiosks and Herm Trident.
. The event launches on 1 July at 6.30pm with a group swim at Vazon followed by live music and food at the revamped Vistas, for which a ticket is needed
